Hand-picked News
Newly released emails show a shady investor pitching Jeffrey Epstein on buying into Faraday Future, Lucid, and Canoo with one goal: flip them fast for profit.
The pitch was pure opportunism. Buy Lucid cheap, sell when Ford acquires it months later. Zero interest in actually building cars.
Epstein never invested, but the fact these conversations happened shows how desperate and messy EV fundraising was in the 2010s.
All of this went down after his 2008 conviction. Silicon Valley was so hyped on "mobility" that a known criminal could credibly pitch nine-figure deals.
Canoo's now bankrupt. Faraday barely exists. Lucid survived but burned billions. The EV boom attracted every kind of money, including the absolute worst.
⚠️ Why it matters: The same FOMO-driven, don't-ask-questions funding culture is happening right now in AI. Different industry, same red flags.
100 million Indians are using ChatGPT every week, making India the second biggest market after the US.
Students are the secret. India has more student ChatGPT users than any country, and OpenAI made their paid tier free for a year to hook them early.
OpenAI only opened an India office in August 2025. They went from zero to 100M users in under 18 months by pricing aggressively and targeting young users.
Google's fighting back hard. They gave Indian students free Gemini Pro and India became their top education market globally.
This is the new AI land grab. India has over a billion internet users and whoever wins students now owns the next generation of AI users.
✅ The takeaway: OpenAI is treating India like the smartphone wars. Get them young, make it free or cheap, become the default before they try anything else.
👀 What to watch: Altman's teasing new government partnerships at India's AI summit this week. If ChatGPT gets built into schools or public services, it's over for competitors.
Jensen Huang cancelled his trip to India's AI Impact Summit at the last minute, leaving organizers scrambling after he was supposed to be one of the biggest draws.
Nvidia's excuse was basically nothing. Just "unforeseen circumstances" and that's it. No details, no apology, nothing.
The optics are terrible. India's trying to prove it's a serious AI player to the world, hotels are booked solid, and the CEO whose chips power every AI company just ghosted them.
They're sending someone else instead. A VP will lead Nvidia's team, but that's not the same as getting the guy every AI founder needs to stay friends with.
The summit runs all week with Modi opening it. Sam Altman, Sundar Pichai, and others are still coming, but losing Huang hurts when you're trying to convince the world you're the next AI superpower.
⚠️ Why it matters: India's betting big on AI and the one person who decides who gets GPUs just bailed with a non explanation. That's not a great signal about how seriously Nvidia takes the market.
👀 Watch for: Whether Nvidia actually announces any India commitments through their backup team, or if this was just a polite way of deprioritizing the whole thing.
